About James Gillies:
Born and raised in Biloxi, MS, James Gillies has made a reputation for himself as one of the premier guitarists on the Gulf Coast. From fronting bands, to his solo acoustic projects and having performed his Jimi Hendrix inspired rendition of the Star Spangled Banner for three different CPR Fests, The MS Seawolves and The United States Air Force, his is a name recognized and respected throughout the circuit of local musicians and the music scene here on the Mississippi Coast.
At the age of 17 James competed in Pinkston's Music's annual "Ultimate Guitar and Drum War". After being given wrong time information and missing the chance to compete in his age division earlier in the day, he had to compete in the 18 and older group against guitarists with years more experience. He won 2nd place. In 2003, at the age of 23 James competed in and won Mississippi Music's "Best Guitarist on the Coast" contest.
James has taught guitar lessons for years both commercially for music store chains and privately. Some of his early students have gone on to form some of the most popular original rock bands on the coast, performing at CPR Fest themselves.
James performs in church, at local benefits, events for the cities of Gulfport & D'Iberville for the annual Cruisin' the Coast, Summer Festival and Christmas Parade celebrations as well as numerous venues, bars, clubs and private functions.
The acoustic project he currently fronts with drummer and brother-in-law Rob Gronkoski takes loved songs from almost any genre, 50s, 80s, modern pop, classic punk and more and delivers them in an acoustic setting fit for just about any occasion. In any given set you'll hear the likes of Elvis, Green Day, Britney Spears and Gloria Gaynor fitting together seamlessly as if they were originally recorded on the same album.
