About Ed Kontur:
Ed Kontur, Band member of Mississippi Blues Connection and friend and lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, passed away on July 4th, 2018 at his home while playing guitar. He was a member of many bands over the years and had a successful music career. He once said that he was living on his own and playing guitar before he graduated high school. Ed said he went to the poor boys college where he had a degree in Family Raising, Shrimping, Ship Building, Being a boat captain, & Welding with a minor in painting and playing guitar. Ed played guitar on and off with Kevin Edwards for about the last 10 years and Ed has been jamming with Mississippi Blues Connection for the last 7 years. Ed wrote "Horn Island" a popular local song. He also wrote "Let Me Sing The Blues For You" and "Getting Old" Also “Open Mic Man”, “Every time You See Me”, and many other popular local songs. Ed co-won the 2017 Blues Mississippi Music Award with Henry Kevin Edwards, and Smiley Tucker as a power trio version of the band Mississippi Blues Connection. Ed played about 150-200 gigs a year for the last 10 years. Some years he played much more that 300 gigs. He would go play every single day when he retired. Ed probably wrote a lot of songs that we don’t know about as there are only recordings from recent years but he has been playing in bands since 1966. He was a cool fellow and will be missed by the Gulf Coast and folks all around as he had fans all over the World at the time of his death.
